How do points work in the NFL for quarterbacks?

Tomlinson had 30 touchdowns thus equalling 180 points and the new NFL record which beat Paul Hornung's 176. Paul Hornung got his 176 on 15 touchdowns, 15 field goals, and 41 extra points; he also threw for two touchdowns but they do not include them in his point total. Why not?. Why don't quarterbacks like Marino and Manning count? 48 and 49 touchdowns should be 288 and 294 points repsectively and the NFL record by far. I have looked all over the internet for an answer but I could not find an explanation anywhere.

The reason why QB TD record doesnt count as most points because that gives them a distinct advantage over other players. Technically speaking, a throwing TD is much more common than a rushing TD or any other TD (like defensive or special teams), so if the point record allows QB points, then I am pretty sure QB is gonna dominate in there. Also there is the concept that when QB throws for a TD, its actually two touchdowns, one for the QB and one touchdown for the receiver, (both of them recieved a TD in their stats), but rushing TD only gives the TD to the RB, not to anyone else.

Furthurmore, a QB has around 5-10 recievers on a team, so technically to make it fair, all the QB touchdowns should be divided by the number of eligible recievers if we are to make QB touchdown points count, since its not fair if a QB throws 4 TD in a game to 4 different recievers, the QB gets 24 points, but each reciever gets only 6.

I hope I cleared it up for you

Yea, technically a QB doesn't score any touchdowns, unless he rushes. He throws to the guy that scored the touchdown.
