I know the NFL has been accused of shafting their players from past era's in the health care and benefits area. Evertt was a back up so compared to other sports players he wasnt making much or atleast not enough to support him for the rest of his life, which he will likely need. I am sure the NFL will find some way to weasel out of this but should they be able to? He was hurt on the job.
How long will the Bills organization and the NFL pay for Evertt's medical care?nba logo
First, the union rules covering this young man are completely different than those covering the guys from yesteryear that are rightfully upset.
The NFL will cover his expenses as long as the union contract says they have to. I don't know the specifics. This could certainly be viewed as a 'workman's comp' injury and their insurance carrier may be required to cover him for life.
The teams that are family owned(like the Bills) have a reputation of better player treatment.
Do you remember a player for the Lions named Mike Utley? Similar injury and circumstances. He remains paralyzed from the waist down. The Ford family kept him on the payroll for several years after he was heathly enough to work. One he gained a pension he re-retired and used to run a program for disabled kids.
